We hope that you have a happy and safe holiday.
Quinnipiac University is a quintessential New England college. Located in Hamden, Connecticut, Quinnipiac boasts a beautiful campus, engaging academics, and a very successful athletics program. Quinnipiac is home to 21 varsity teams, two of which are the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey teams. Their home ice, the TD Bank Sports Center, was in need of a fresh set of dasher board graphics this year, so Quinnipiac turned to their longtime partner, AMI Graphics, to get the job done.
Quinnipiac’s athletic department and brand strategy office contacted AMI Graphics in mid-August looking to update their dasher board graphics with their new branding prior to their home opener, just over a month away. In previous seasons, dasher board graphics were only present behind the nets and scattered throughout the offensive and defensive zones. This year, Quinnipiac went with a full branded wrap printed on DashMax ™, AMI’s proprietary adhesive dasher board graphic material. This material was designed to withstand harsh temperature fluctuations that take place within hockey arenas while also standing up to the wear and tear that comes along with the high-energy nature of the game. AMI provided Quinnipiac with a template to ensure that their design would work within the necessary space. Color samples were produced to ensure the printed colors would match the school’s specified pantone color, and the artwork was quickly approved. Three days after artwork approval, AMI’s installation team was down in Connecticut to begin installing the bold rink wrap.
Now, the Bobcats are ready to hit the ice next week with fresh, new dasher board graphics. When the puck drops, the Bobcats home ice will be sporting their signature blue Q, sponsors, and “#BobcatNation”!
Sponsorships are an important revenue stream for any sports facility and ice arenas are no exception. Most ice arenas take advantage of the main areas of the venue for sponsorship opportunities such as dasher board graphics, under ice logos, scoreboard signage, concourse signage, and backlit signage. But, there are a few other creative areas around the playing surface that are easy to use to add to your list of sponsorship inventory and take your sponsor signage to the next level!
Sponsors like their logo and message to be close to the action to get as much visibility as possible for their sponsorship dollars. The glass surrounding the playing surface is right in the action of the game, no matter where the puck happens to be. Rink wraps are the perfect way to take advantage of this prime visibility for an important sponsor!
Rink wraps are window graphics applied to each panel of the glass that surrounds the playing surface. At approximately 6-8” tall, rink wraps are tall enough to make a big impact without blocking the view of fans behind them. They are also printed on a one-way viewable window graphic material that allows someone behind the graphic to see through as if it wasn’t there. Rink wraps make the best impression and retain a high desirability if offered to only one sponsor.
Similar to rink wraps, behind the bench decals offer a creative and highly visible sponsorship opportunity for you to offer to your important sponsors. Fans are constantly looking at the bench areas to see what the players are doing both during the action and in between whistles. Decals applied to the glass or walls behind the benches capture the eyes of fans as they scan those areas. Behind the bench decals also offer sponsor impressions to those fans watching from home when the cameras cut to the players or coaches.
Another area that can be used to increase inventory and revenue from sponsorships are the most functional and high traffic area of your seating bowl – the stairs! Stair riser decals adhere to the face of the stair and transform the high profile stairs in your seating bowl into a unique sponsorship opportunity! Like behind the bench decals, stair riser decals provide the added value of visibility to fans watching the game on TV.
Stair riser decals aren’t just for the stairs in your seating bowl. Use stair riser decals on lobby and entrance staircases as well!
Motivate your athletes in the place they prepare for games with locker room graphics. From preparing for the season’s biggest game to recapping after a tough loss, the locker room is a place for your student-athletes to come together as a team. This heavily utilized area is often left blank, but it doesn’t have to be! Make their space burst with school spirit with Wall Murals of historic wins, standout athletes and coaches, views of the town or city you play in, and more. Bringing your locker room to the next level will not only attract top tier recruits but will also give your current student athletes motivation to bring home another championship.
Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts surrounded their players with a variety of Wall Murals celebrating the program’s history. Home to successful NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Teams, they have a lot to celebrate. Now the Northeastern Huskies’ locker room is a testament to their legendary coaches and players, paramount seasons, and the famed student section lovingly named the “Dog House”.
The University of New Hampshire Women’s Ice Hockey Team chose bold dimensional letters to surround their players. Although the space above your athletes’ lockers is narrow, it doesn’t have to be bare! Any space in your locker room is capable of a stunning custom display. The powerful word “Champions” surrounded by Hockey East and NCAA Division I titles is a constant reminder to the women who play for the Wildcats of the success they are capable of achieving. An adjacent wall is also decorated with custom dimensional letters spelling out a motivational message as well as two signature Wildcat logos.
The University of Rhode Island worked with AMI to install a striking wall mural for their NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball team. The Rams highlighted past influential players in a stunning display of black and white vignettes collaged with their signature blue team color for added depth. Each influential player is paired with text celebrating their past accomplishments. Now, current Rams walk by the greats that came before them and are inspired before they head out for the big game.
Using adhesive graphics does not mean having to stick to the basics! Adhesives, more commonly known as Custom Vinyl Decals, come in all shapes and sizes and can be applied on almost any surface. Murals can make a big impact at your facility. The Rensselaer Engineers highlighted their past players and coaches by installing a Wall Mural. Murals aren’t just for walls though; check out other out of the box locations, like poles and elevators that are great options for murals as well.
The Whittemore Center at the University of New Hampshire is home to NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey teams as well as a number of special events throughout the year. Despite the multi-purpose nature of the facility, UNH makes sure to keep their supporting poles looking fresh with adhesive Pole Wraps. Whether it is a sponsorship or branding for an event, Pole Wraps are an excellent mural option to add to your facility. Seating sections are commonly found on poles as well, making them highly visible to fans and perfect for additional sponsor inventory. Pole Wraps can be installed as a permanent feature or temporary in order to allow for changing sponsors or events without ruining the surface it is adhered to.
Elevator doors are another key, high visibility location for murals. Most facilities are required to have elevators, so why not take advantage of that space and give patrons something to look at while they wait? Elevator doors can be wrapped with adhesive graphics to showcase your team name and logo, an upcoming event, or key partnerships and sponsors. The Florida Everblades paired sponsor signage with their trademark blue and green alligator mascot. The University of New Hampshire wrapped their elevator doors with a visually appealing sponsor mural. The Boston Bruins prepared for a playoff run with fresh graphics welcoming fans to the TD Garden.
Murals are very versatile branding tools. From covering large walls with life sized team photos, showcasing sponsors, or promoting your brand, murals can do it all. Use Wall Murals to brand customer service areas like the Florida Everblades did or to decorate narrow yet noticeable areas like Harvard. Harvard used their Wall Mural to highlight their All-American players around the concourse of their rink. Murals are just one aspect of facility branding.
