THE BACKGROUND

Established in 2001, the Women’s Ice Hockey Frozen Four Championship showcases the country’s elite collegiate women’s ice hockey teams to determine the NCAA National Champion. The 2016 event was held in Durham, NH at the Whittemore Center Arena, located on the campus of AMI Graphics’ longtime partner, the University of New Hampshire.

THE WORK

The scope of work was two-fold; to meet the needs of the NCAA in promoting the brand and tournament while keeping the University’s existing signage in mind. A preliminary site survey was conducted with both the NCAA and UNH to discuss temporary signage solutions that would not only meet both parties’ needs but also be visually appealing for a high-profile event. The first aspects of the project completed were a large-scale vinyl banner that was hung outside of the Whittemore Center and mesh street banners which were installed in downtown Durham to advertise the event. New in-ice logos were produced to re-brand the ice surface, while AMI produced and installed ice resurfacer wraps, temporary dasher graphics, scoreboard graphics, and vinyl banners to transform the Whittemore Center into a stage set for the national spotlight.

THE RESULTS

The 2016 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four was a unique project due to the national scale of the event that required temporary signage without compromising quality. Through thorough site surveys and close collaboration with both the NCAA and the University of New Hampshire, AMI created and implemented a variety of signage solutions that resulted in a stunning venue worthy of a National Championship.

CLIENT REACTIONS

“I had a great experience working with the AMI staff on the National Collegiate Women’s Frozen Four. From the site survey, to design, to execution, everything was spot-on. We particularly required assistance in the design phase, which needed to be coordinated with both NCAA guidelines and arena aesthetics. AMI was able to come up with designs that met these criteria and looked great. We also required a quick turn-around for many items but again, this went very smoothly. Every item arrived on time and installs went seamlessly. AMI truly played a huge role in helping make this a great event that created national exposure for both the University of New Hampshire and women’s ice hockey.”

KATE McAFEE
Associate Athletic Director for Event Management, University of New Hampshire

“AMI was very easy to work with for this event, and I would definitely recommend working with them. All the staff were helpful, professional, and very friendly. They wanted to understand the application for each piece being produced so they could provide the best result. I was especially impressed with how AMI took a concept for displaying jerseys and created a great looking banner with properly spaced grommets to display the NCAA hockey team jerseys. Requests were proofed for approval, produced quickly, and were efficiently installed at times that had the least impact on our schedule. All of the final products looked great and really helped enhance the participant and guest experience.”
