There are a wide array of different avenues an organization can take to earn the attention of potential customers. In an increasingly digital world, vehicle wraps offer a unique opportunity to stand out. Recent research from the Outdoor Media Association found that people are 2.5 times more alert when they are out of their homes and are twice as likely to take an action after seeing an advertisement. The added benefit of using your vehicle to advertise outdoors is that you will earn unique impressions from new audiences every time you drive, unlike a billboard or other static forms of advertisements. Their ability to strengthen branding and reach a captive audience make vehicle wraps an excellent investment for any organization. At AMI, we have expert 3M certified installers who will install your wraps with precision and care.
In order to extend the life of your vehicle wrap, there are several things to know prior to installation. This article will discuss the recommended actions to take prior to installation as well as maintenance and upkeep after installation.
Prep work
Before you bring your vehicle to get wrapped, it’s important that the exterior of your vehicle be clean. This includes rust or any damage to the body. Any rust or body issues must be properly repaired prior to an adhesive wrap being installed. Failure to repair will not only void the 3M warranty, but will also make your adhesive wrap susceptible to failure.
We recommend a normal wash of your exterior, removing all dirt and debris. A clean surface is paramount to proper adhesion of a vehicle wrap. It is important that you not wax your car, as wax creates a slippery, non-stick surface on the car. If there is wax on the body or windows, our installers will have to wash the wax off, a time-consuming and costly process.
One major factor affecting whether or not a vehicle can be wrapped is temperature. The material does not adhere to the surface under 50 degrees Fahrenheit, so winter installations are typically done indoors, in a temperature-controlled building. For those looking to have a vehicle wrapped in the winter, unless you have a heated building where the vehicle can be wrapped, the vehicle would have to be delivered to our location.
Maintenance
Once your wrap is installed, you will be impressed by how sharp your vehicle looks. There are a few things you can do to keep your new adhesive wrap looking polished for a long time to come.
First, keeping your vehicle garaged or sheltered when not in use will help prolong the life of your wrap. Shelter from snow and rain will reduce the chance of moisture getting behind any the wrap, which can cause dry rot over time. Shelter from the sun will reduce the risk of your decal fading from over-exposure to sunlight.
We recommend washing your vehicle by hand once a month or as needed. Washing your car by hand ensures that you control where the water is sprayed and how vigorously you scrub. Using a carwash is not recommended because there is little to no control over the forcefulness and direction of the water.
Maintenance on a vehicle wrap is minimal, making them a convenient marketing tool. Follow the simple steps listed above and your vehicle wrap will last for years to come!
