Trusses are a common structure at events of all sizes, especially races. Whether the racing event is on foot or via wheel or motor, trusses are typically the focus of the event serving as the start and/or finish lines or entrances to certain areas. As the focus, the truss structure offers prime opportunities for branding or sponsor signage.
Truss signage is a simple and often cost-effective way to boost the appearance and atmosphere for participants and spectators alike. Customizable to the exact size and specifications of your truss structure, truss signage can be mesh or vinyl banners or if the signage needs to be more rigid than a banner, material options like coroplast provide lightweight but sturdy options.
Red Bull Frozen Rush, an off road match race taking place on snowy ski slopes, used trusses for their start and finish lines, as well as at strategic points throughout the race for bringing cables and wires across the course for screens and cameras. Branded mesh banners were used to cover the columns and crosspiece. They also chose to use the side columns to display event sponsor logos. To add another element to their truss signage, a dimensional sign featuring the event logo was created for the crosspiece on the finish line to complete the dynamic look of the finish area for the racers and spectators, whether they were watching in person or on television.
The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance is another motorsports event that chose mesh banners for their custom truss signage. Covering the truss elevated the look of the infrastructure at what is already a high-class event. The truss signage also allowed them to an additional avenue for displaying logos of their key sponsors.
Start and finish line trusses are very popular for road races and trail races as well. If a truss is used for both the start and finish lines, truss signage allows each side of the truss structure to be designated for the correct race direction. Truss signage also allows race organizers highly visible real estate to display sponsor logos and bring in additional revenue for their event. Falmouth Road Race uses mesh banners on the sides of their truss featuring race branding, the year, and a prominent display of their main sponsor’s logos. The mesh banners are used in conjunction with a double sided vinyl banner attached to the crosspiece with event details and branding.
For a running event consisting of a half marathon and festival in Boston, Runner’s World used the same signage combination as Falmouth with mesh banners for the truss sides and vinyl banners declaring the start line as well as finish line on the backside.
For the Runner’s World Half & Festival in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, it was decided that truss signage made fully from mesh banners would be the best signage solution for the location and wind factor.
Working with a smaller truss structure at the Stonyfield Earth Day 5K, it was determined that a rigid truss signage option would allow for the best fit and appearance for the event.
