Home of the Bronchos, the University of Central Oklahoma is one of the largest in the state serving over 17,000 students across 117 degree programs. Competing at the NCAA Division II level, the UCO Bronchos currently compete in 14 varsity sports in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
One of the most popular sports at UCO is football. With over 100 years of history, the UCO Bronchos football team has accumulated 18 conference championships, six division championships, two NAIA national championships, and rank in the top five for total wins in NCAA Division II. Home games are played at Wantland Stadium with a capacity of 10,000.
In 2013, the Bronchos were looking to update their sideline signage at their football stadium. Already a fan of sideline a-frames as a way to increase sponsor inventory while being able to highlight those sponsors close to the action on their field, the Bronchos approached AMI Graphics for the best signage solution for the sideline a-frames. Coroplast a-frames were the chosen solution for the Bronchos as they allowed sponsor graphics to be displayed on the sidelines next to the field of play but are also designed to be stored flat to maximize storage space and portability. For longevity, AMI suggested using vinyl banners with a quick-change Velcro® system for quick and affordable sponsor changes from season to season rather than having to order a new a-frame for every new sponsor.
While in process on the details and artwork of the sideline a-frames, the Bronchos mentioned that they had a need for some large berm mesh banners that would require some complex finishing due to the size and unique angles of the area that needed to be covered. Never known to back down from a challenge, AMI conducted a site visit at UCO to confirm measurements of the berms before printing.
The large mesh banners were then printed, custom finished, and shipped to UCO in time to be installed for their home opener.
Also included in the mesh banner side of this summer project was a scoreboard back mesh banner. Using the back of the scoreboard allowed UCO to take advantage of a typically empty space and turn it into a prime piece of sponsor inventory directly above where fans enter the stadium on game day.
