Project Highlight: University of New England Locker Room Graphics

The University of New England (UNE) is an NCAA Division III school based in scenic Biddeford, Maine with additional campuses in Portland, Maine and Tangier, Morocco. With recent success from many of their athletic programs, UNE wanted to enhance the appearance of their athletic facilities with locker room graphics. Having worked together successfully in the past on various branded signage projects, UNE reached out to AMI Graphics once again to give their locker rooms a professional appearance that suited their hard-working student-athletes.

Over the span of three visits, the AMI team took measurements and spoke with coaches and members of the athletic department to understand their vision for the locker rooms.  The AMI creative department used their extensive design experience to build upon UNE’s desired design elements to create a consistent, professional appearance in each locker room that would motivate current student-athletes and attract prospective students-athletes. Once the proposed designs were approved by UNE, the print production and installation processes were started, adding locker room graphics to every athletic locker room in the Harold Alfond Forum athletic facility as well as the Campus Center Pool locker room.

Each locker room was given a similar theme with adhesive graphics installed above the lockers with school colors and logos. To make the locker room graphics pop and provide a more personalized feel, rectangular signs with snap frames were used to brand the individual locker rooms for their particular sport. The rectangular signs with the frames provide high-end appeal and generate team pride.

Wall murals used above the lockers in the Men’s Soccer locker room present a painted-on look and makes the most of minimal wall space for an effective visual.  The locker room graphics that were installed made a big impact on the overall atmosphere of the locker room, despite only using limited space.

To differentiate the design of each locker room, individual rectangular signs denoting which team occupied the locker room were installed as well. Snap frames were used to display these signs. Snap frames display signs professionally, while also offering organizations the ability to replace signage with ease when needed.

Outside of the Women’s Ice Hockey locker room, a full adhesive wall mural was installed. The graphics not only present a stunning visual, but also act as daily motivation for student-athletes. The adhesive material used on this wall is long-lasting and adheres to the wall, appearing as if it were painted on. Full wall murals are a great way to revitalize blank space and give a room a polished feel. The talented staff at AMI designed this mural to include a relevant team photo and motivational quotes, which completely changed the look and feel of the space without the headaches of a major renovation project.

The Men’s Ice Hockey locker room features recognition signs that highlight player and team accomplishments. These signs are an excellent way to honor past athletes as well as setting benchmarks for athletes to strive for. To complement the record-holders, motivational quotes from collegiate coaches were added at the bottom of the signs to further motivate students, while also adding color to otherwise blank walls.

AMI’s ability to produce a visual that matched UNE’s concept for their locker rooms made for a seamless process and one where all parties walked away satisfied. With their locker room project completed, UNE has impactful branding that motivates their student-athletes to strive for greatness.
