Project Highlight: Merrimack College Branded Signage

Located just North of Boston, Massachusetts, Merrimack College is a private college founded in the Roman Catholic Augustinian tradition. Home to over 3,000 full-time undergraduate students, Merrimack’s athletic teams, known as the Warriors, consist of 24 varsity sports teams including 22 at the NCAA Division II level, while men’s and women’s ice hockey compete at the Division I level.

When looking to revamp aging signage items and add some new branded signage concepts to their athletic facilities, the Warriors turned to longtime signage partner, AMI Graphics. Over the summer, a site survey was conducted to measure and evaluate the areas that Merrimack wanted to update, including the move of various fields and bleachers to make room for the construction of a new football stadium.

The first part of the project was the overhaul of championship banners in Hammel Court, home of the Warriors’ basketball and volleyball teams, after seeing a championship banner upgrade that AMI completed for fellow Northeast-10 Conference member, Southern New Hampshire University. Replacing applique style banners, these digitally printed cloth banners now feature the most recent championship and tournament appearances, as well as some minor changes to the school’s colors.

Continuing on with championship banners, mesh windscreens, featuring the many accomplishments of the men’s and women’s soccer teams, were added to the fences on Martone-Mejail Field. Additional windscreens were replaced at the same field as well due to the minor school color changes. Windscreens provide an optimal signage solution for championship banners for outdoor sports by adding visual appeal to what would otherwise be a blank fence while also providing a level of privacy and wind protection to the field.

With the move of the softball field to Martone-Mejail Field, a sponsor signage panel was added to the new scoreboard allowing for additional sponsorship inventory and revenue for the softball team and athletic department. Wanting to cover the empty and unsightly areas underneath the old football bleachers now being used for softball, a bleacher wrap was added to the back of the bleachers featuring Merrimack College branding. The wrap was created with mesh windscreens and installed onto a custom cabling system for a new look to the repurposed bleachers.
