Boston College is a private liberal arts university located in Chestnut Hill, MA. Founded in 1863 in Boston’s South End, Boston College now hosts over 9,000 full-time undergraduate students and nearly 5,000 graduate students. Among the student body are the student-athletes that are a part of the 31 varsity athletic programs that compete at the Division I level in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Hockey East.

Having worked together in the past, AMI Graphics understood Boston College’s standard of excellence, and Boston College came to expect service that matched those standards from AMI. Prior projects like seat covers, championship banners, and large commencement backdrops  helped us build a strong relationship with Boston College.

The uncertainty of the upcoming seasons due to the pandemic put many branded signage projects on hold for colleges across the country. Once the athletic seasons were confirmed, Boston College called on AMI Graphics to move ahead on a wall mural project within their athletic facilities. Boston College’s project included the production and installation of adhesive wall murals, floor graphics, and directional signage in the hallways of their athletic facilities. The uncertainty around athletic seasons created a condensed time frame for colleges to have signage materials produced which required AMI to be able to turn this job around quickly. Despite the uncertain nature of the pandemic, AMI is positioned to carry out projects in a timely manner without risking the health of our employees and clients.

Effective communication and planning by both Boston College and AMI Graphics allowed this project to proceed with minimal face-to-face contact and an in-and-out installation process to ensure a safe and healthy experience for everyone. Initial site visits were performed by AMI staff to take measurements and to fully understand the scope of the project right away. Because Boston College had artwork in mind already, an AMI signage expert was able to suggest materials and applications which kept the project moving. Once measurements were completed and artwork was sent to AMI, the graphic design team completed the critical process of sizing the artwork properly to be printed and installed in the intended physical space.

Upon receiving the print files, the production team printed and packaged the finished signage materials, ready to be driven to Boston College by the installation team. Once the installation team arrived with the signage materials, the work began to transform the halls of their athletic facility.

In the hallway above, adhesive wall murals were used to strengthen branding and feature athletic programs. Additionally, directional signage was used to help promote a safe flow of foot traffic inside the facilities amid Covid-19 health protocols.

Adhesive floor graphics were installed similarly to dashed lines in a road to create delineated walking areas for those visiting the facility. Using floor graphics in addition to directional signage is an effective way to promote health protocols within a building. The directional signage allows Boston College to easily provide instructions to their visitors, and the floor graphics make it easy for visitors to follow those protocols. The combination of products used in this project not only rejuvenated bland hallways, but also made them safer places for visitors to be.

This full-color photo of the Boston College Football program creates a striking visual within the hallways. Large wall murals that feature full-color images of are a great way to add energy into an area of a building.

Along another wall, a collage of photos featuring prior student-athletes covers a long span. The collage creates a unified look at Boston College sports programs with the motivating sentiment “For Boston” printed over the images. This collage creates an impressive display while also allowing Boston College to feature prior student-athletes and programs.

On a different wall, the simple message “For the Team” is displayed on an adhesive wall mural. Wall graphics are an excellent way for athletic programs and colleges to promote mottos and slogans of their organizations. Common areas and heavily trafficked hallways are great places to display this messaging to promote team pride.
